Singapore Shopping Guide

Singapore Shopping GuideIf your first love is shopping, then Singapore should be your first destination of choice. The island has big brands, local flavours, good bargains and the best in shopping conveniences.

But like all true blue explorers, you need to arm yourself with a Singapore shopping guide which details local guidelines before your shopping expedition!

Orchard Road Shopping
The main shopping area in Singapore is undoubtedly Orchard Road which has the most malls along its length. Shopping malls along the Orchard Road tourist belt offer a good mix of fashion, food, branded retailers, essentials like money changers and pharmacies, groceries, local labels, hardware, furnishings etc.

Most shops and malls are open from 10:00 am to approximate 10:00 pm daily. Apart from notable exceptions like shopping at Mustafa and Holland Village Cold Storage which are open 24 hours a day.

Look out for Sale everyday!
Be sure to check the newspaper on any given day in Singapore as there is usually a sale on somewhere! There are great ‘value buys sales’ in electronics and furnishings and they advertise prolifically in the local papers. Bargaining, especially in smaller stalls and flea markets are the norm! Make use of your resident friends who will undoubtedly be good shopping guides to the nooks and crannies of the Singapore market!

Singapore Dollar Exchange Rate
You can charge your purchases to your credit cards, so you won’t feel burdened carrying the extra cash around. There are licensed money changers all around Singapore and you can be assured of getting a decent exchange rate for your currency! No matter what you are buying it helps to have the receipt with you, as you can return and/or exchange the product after complying with the store’s policies.
